Huge swaths of old-growth forest were logged on the Kootenai National Forest of northwest Montana. Fortunately, Rick Bass says, nature is capable of healing former traumas. Grizzlies that survived the onslaught of tree felling, road building and killing by previous generations of people today are hanging on by a thread in the Yaak.
