Mountain Journal Book Club

A shared reading experience for people who care deeply about land, wildlife, community, and the stories that shape the West and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

The MoJo book club is a seasonal reading community curated by Mountain Journal editorial staff. We’ll select books that deepen our understanding of the natural world, Western history, conservation, and the human stories woven through it all.

Selections may feature guided discussion questions, essays and reflections from Mountain Journal contributors, and opportunities to engage online, and when possible, in person.

This isn’t homework. It’s an invitation to slow down, read deeply, and think together about the landscapes and ideas that shape our lives in the GYE.

How it works

  1. We choose a book. Each season (or quarter), MoJo selects a title connected to land, wildlife, culture, or conservation.
  2. You read at your own pace. No deadlines, no pressure, just a shared timeline.
  3. We talk about it. Expect discussion prompts in our comment section, essays, interviews, and community conversations.
  4. We gather. Online discussions, live Q&A’s, and occassional in-person events when possible.

Why a book club?

Books help us ask better questions about stewardship, belonging, power and place. The MoJo Book Club is about building a community around those questions. At a time when public lands and public conversations feel increasingly fractured, we believe reading together can be inspirational.
