Dr. Barrie Gilbert, who earned his PhD at Duke University and taught biology at Utah State University, is a researcher of bear behavior, author and advocate for large landscape conservation. A Canadian by birth and residence, he spent thousands of hours out among wild black bears and grizzlies in Yellowstone and Yosemite national parks, Alberta, coastal British Columbia and along the Brooks River in Katmai National Park of Alaska. He has been following the plight of grizzlies in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem for 50 years. He also has studied dolphin communication and the behavior of wild ungulates.
