Melody S. Mobley holds distinction as being the first professional forester of African-American descent being hired by the U.S. Forest Service. She retired in 2005 just shy of becoming a GS-15. She spent 28 years with the agency. Among her many special assignments was working with foresters at the state and local levels, and assisting with the Forest Service's first nationwide strategy for approaching watershed management.
