Dan Wenk has had an illustrious career with the National Park Service, one of the most beloved agencies in American government. No assignment, not even his time as acting national director, has sparked his passions more, than his tenure in Yellowstone. “Working in Yellowstone is not only a big responsibility, but being superintendent is the highest honor,” he says. “It is the beating heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.”

Millions from around the world come to visit Yellowstone but there’s only been a relative handful of park superintendents. Here, Wenk affectionately describes the things that make this place stand out.
