During the first half of his career Doig wrote from a writing studio in his home that was dark because of shade trees preventing sunlight from coming. After he and his wife%2C Carol%2C moved to their new%E2%80%94and last residence%E2%80%94he had commanding views of ocean and it brought a brightening within his intense focus and attention to details and plot. Carol Doig says that following a long day of writing and editing his stories%2C Doig would join her with a pre-dinner libation and consciously savor what a good%2C fortunate life they had together.
